2019 Volvo XC40
The 2019 Volvo XC40 compact crossover is unapologetically cast toward buyers who cannot remember the first season of “The Simpsons.” It pioneers a new way to pay for a car, and the 2019 XC40 sports lots of features that may impress younger shoppers. The color combination skips examples from your moms and dads’ closets and provides blues, reds, whites, and oranges that seem like a good idea– in the meantime.
2019 Volvo XC40 Release Date
The 2019 Volvo XC40 goes on sale in March in T5 Momentum and R-Design trims with all-wheel drive. Front-drive T4 versions will arrive later in the year. The XC40 is a significant departure from Volvo’s other crossovers on the surface– and much deeper ways too. The possibilities for appearances vary from Amazon Blue with a white roofing and white wheels, to intense red with a black roofing system and black 20-inch wheels. Come at me, bro.
2019 Volvo XC40 Styling
The 2019 Volvo XC40 steps out of the XC mold a little and charts its own direction from the lineup, which mainly works. It’s a more youthful crossover than the other two, larger Volvo offerings, inside and out. The brilliant style wears extroverted colors too, which won’t be for everybody. We like that. Unlike the XC60 and XC90, which were drawn by Thomas Ingenlath, the XC40 was delivered from unheralded 31-year-old Ian Kettle, who submitted the preliminary style five years earlier, fresh out of art school in London.
The outcome is an XC40 that gets some of Volvo’s familiar hints, however with its own spin. Rather of a convex grille from the XC60 and XC90, the XC40 takes a concave and a lip that adds a small underbite. The signature LED headlights– called “Thor’s hammer” by Volvo designers—- flank the grill and reach up towards a stamped clamshell hood that eases the nose from any shunt lines. The roofing system line is eclipsed by an window line that kinks up from the rear door to create a fat rear roof pillar that satisfies one of three roofing colors with a cutline and trim piece that mixes the seams well. On R-Design models, the trim is stamped with an “R-Design” logo design that we especially like. Along the bottom, an included trapezoidal stamp breaks up the vertical weight of the doors and ties the front to the back well.
2019 Volvo XC40 Interior
Inside, the XC40 blends a horizontal dash with a vertical touchscreen towards the middle, where the crossover is its lightest. We confess that the “Lava Orange” carpet will not be for many purchasers, but it’s a refreshing take on exactly what might have been an extremely dark interior. The door inserts curtained in bright colors look strangely odd– and bottom-heavy– but the storage they supply deserves the danger. The XC40 looks much younger than the XC60 and XC90, and suddenly it makes a lot more sense to us.
2019 Volvo XC40 Engine
The 2019 Volvo XC40 is a new crossover on a new platform for Volvo, and one that will generate several versions in the near future. But the existing crossover should not be neglected. The very first examples to strike our coasts in March 2018 will be geared up with a 2.0-liter turbo-4 that makes 248 horse power and 258 pound-feet of torque. Paired to an 8-speed automated and all-wheel drive, Volvo calls the early versions T5 AWD, although more powertrains are on their method. None of those are world-beating, but the XC40 has a stable flight even with the base suspension.
Along with a new skeleton, the XC40 boasts new powertrains with an electrical version en route. The turbo-4 discovered under the hoods of T5 variants is excellent; power is provided quickly without being too sharp, and the 8-speed does not avoid ahead too quickly in the name of performance.
Like other turbocharged engines, the turbo-4 in the T5 delivers its best punches early in the rev range. Volvo approximates that the T5 will accelerate as much as 60 miles per hour in 6.2 seconds, which corresponds the BMW X1 xDrive28i, and amongst the quickest in the class.
